Toy Chest: Sixth Scale Snake Plissken

Processed with VSCOcam with f2 presetThe name’s Plissken. Snake Plissken. And–oh wait, I’m sorry. This is a toy? And not the real Snake Plissken? Coulda fooled me.

Sideshow Collectibles knocks it out of the park yet again with this astonishingly accurate sixth scale figure of our favorite ex-soldier-rebel-turned hero, Snake Plissken. There have been very few figures from this particular franchise and those that were available have been sub-par at best. So, upon learning that there would be a highly accurate, incredibly-detailed version of Snake, I promptly set to pre-ordering immediately. Actual squeals were involved. However, Sideshow once again beat me to it and provided me with this beautiful figure to review. So excited!

Processed with VSCOcam with m5 presetThere are many Kurt Russell roles that reserve a soft spot in my heart but nothing can quite compare to his iconic portrayal of the ruthless antihero that can sport an eye patch oh so well. His costume is revered across all 80s nostalgia pieces and his infamous “Call me Snake” line has carved itself a permanent spot in Best Movie Lines Of All Time According to Melissa.Processed with VSCOcam with f2 presetThe sixth scale Snake Plissken stands at the usual 12 inches and comes with a wide number of accessories, removable head and clothing, and packaged art that’ll make your mama drool. Yes, look at that drawing of him sitting there (pictured below). Scowling at you. Smirking at you. Flirting with you? Sigh. I just love antiheroes.

Before I get into the specifics, let it be known that the packaging for this figure really is outstanding. The exterior of the box is simple yet poignant – it features the name of the movie and a single illustration of a cobra. Flip it over and you’ll find a close-up of the piece of art pictured below (which you can find as soon as you open the box). I kind of want to hang up this illustration. Above my bed. IMG_0157Paint Job: I can think of few toys that properly display a painted beard well, but Sideshow simply astounds with Snake’s. The paint job is superb on many levels on the figure, but that face! With the beard. It’s literally amazing.  Oh, and an added bonus? His snake tattoo is there. Mmmhm. Right on his abs of steel. No, I’m not going to show you–that’s between Snake and I.

Sculpt: Only Sideshow can properly depict the no-nonsense badassery of Russell, and oh do they depict it well. Every defined muscle, locks of hair, slightly smirking mouth and even the accessories have been sculpted to such a pleasing degree, I’d have to hide him from my imaginary boyfriend for fear that he might get jealous. My only quip? I would have loved for his mouth to be slightly open, so that I could have fit that cigarette they provided us with in there.Processed with VSCOcam with f2 presetPoseability: I had a lot of fun posing this figure into various positions after I removed some of the clothing. I mean–I really did need to verify whether or not he had his tattoo! Anyways, as with most sixth scale figures, you can pose the sixth scales into quite a few different positions (usually once their clothes are removed). I experienced a bit of trouble getting his arms to bend, but once I was able to, it was fine thereafter.

Accessories: Snake Plissken comes complete with a removable jacket, two guns (with their respective silencers, scopes, and mags), four pairs of interchangeable hands, throwing stars, cigarette, radio and homing device, wrist-watch and tracker. I’m overwhelmed by the amount included–it’s more than I could ever want! And Sideshow doesn’t skimp on the accessory detailing, either. Everything is accurately rendered with perfection.Processed with VSCOcam with f2 presetProcessed with VSCOcam with f2 preset

“Call me Snake”

Sideshow Collectibles is proud to present the Snake Plissken Sixth Scale Figure, leading anti-hero of the 80’s cult classic Escape from New York.

Chock full o’ attitude, we’ve brought the all-American escape artist to life with a highly detailed likeness of Snake, as portrayed by actor Kurt Russell. Sporting his full abdomen cobra tattoo, Plissken is decked out in his trademark duds, including eyepatch, muscle shirt, distressed leather jacket, urban camo pants, catcher’s shin guards and combat boots.

Ready to take on the Duke, we’ve armed the one-eyed warrior with a complete arsenal of modified firepower. Holstered at his side is the USPF-issued sub-machine gun with detachable silencer, scope and spare mags, his sidearm revolver with scope, and an array of throwing stars. Cigarette in one hand, Snake is fully equipped with a radio and homing device – and just so there’s no funny business, he’s shackled up with wrist time-clock and tracker.
