Hello, dear readers! It’s been awhile since I’ve swam upon these blogging shores, but as the year draws to a close, the self-indulgent, list-obsessive completist in me has once again decided to take a tiny dip back in.

Look–I’m not going to bore you with a tedious, wordy intro on how goddamn awful 2016 was, and conversely, how the very opposite of that awful was reflected in it’s entertainment output–but I am going to instead include quite a few “Melissa’s Best Of” lists to make up for that. Bear in mind that these are MY favorites, not necessarily the best of–and if I left off one of YOUR best of’s, that’s just too damn bad. This was stressful enough as is without worrying what would people would think when I left off THE WITCH. But hi! Thanks for reading this anyways. I like you. Continue reading

2015 in Favorites!

Say what you will about 2015, but we’ve had some damn fine entertainment. So fine, in fact, that some of its turnout has landed it’s way into my top favorite lists of ALL TIME EVER. I know that I tend to obsess and say that everything’s my favorite, but trust me when I say that this year–everything is my favorite. I’m still experiencing heart-eyes when I think of some of the movies I watched or books I read.

Stand out moments: screaming in unadulterated joy and satisfaction at Mad Max, quoting What We Do In The Shadows relentlessly, crying in total elation and emotion at The Force Awakens, and finally seeing Ghost live.

Anyways, without further ado, I give to you…my favorites of 2015.

movies1. Mad Max: Fury Road, 2. Star Wars: The Force Awakens, 3. What We Do In The Shadows, 4. Final Girls, 5. Ex Machina, 6. It Follows, 7. Kingsman, 8. Magic Mike XXL, 9. Krampus, 10. The Martian, 11. A Girl Walks Home Alone At Night, 12. Turbo Kid, 13. Spring, 14. The Guest, 15. Crimson Peak

Cross Country Couture: Not Your Dolls

Happy November, dolls!

Yes, it’s me, your favorite worst blogger ever, finally returning with a BRAND NEW POST! I hope you’re just as excited as I am. I’ve decided to kick-start my blog with a soft redesign and a shiny new feature–Cross Country Couture!

Since I have relocated all the way back to Texas (sniff), my best friend Kristin (who’s in New York) and I have decided on a super fun way to close the distance digitally: we’re choosing an item we both love and then having mini photoshoots in our respective states! It’s bloody brilliant–and an amazing excuse to buy cute things! Not that I needed any, of course. (This also helps with the whole “I miss my best friend and I’m thousands of miles away” thing.)

Our first entry in the series begins with this amazing Valley of the Dolls inspired shirt we snagged over at Wild Fox. We’re both equally obsessed with the overall aesthetic of the film (and the book as well!), so doing a 1960s inspired shoot was a no-brainer. We both had a ton of fun prepping for the photos and coming up with all these neat ideas for execution. I don’t have a fancy camera yet or anything and actually this is my first REAL photoshoot (“real”, heh) so please bear with my amateur additions. Enjoy! Continue reading

Baked By The Other Melissa: Apple and Cherry Pie

In which, I showcase my culinary triumphs and failures while I hone my skills as a baker/cook/pâtissière.

Now, readers: this may come as a shock to you. Until recently, I have never made any sort of fruit pie. Pecan pie? You got it. Chocolate cream pie? Many times. But a basic apple pie? Nope. Never. It could be that I’m actually not the biggest fan of fruit pies, but really, it’s because it never even occurred to me to make one. Until now. Here’s how I did it. Continue reading
